14.SEPTEMBER: SAMARKAND (LEG 8 FINISH/LEG 9 START)

 

Today there are no planned activities other than dropping off the people who just finished the eight leg and picking up people who are joining us for the ninth leg.

Accommodation: We will stay in the same guesthouse as the night earlier.

 

15.SEPTEMBER: SAMARKAND - PENJIKENT


We will leave Uzbekistan and head to Penjikent/Panjakent which is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. We will have the option to visit old mosques and mausoleums before continuing up 


Accommodation: We have the option of staying in Penjikent, but will most likely continue driving a bit further up to a village called Rachnapollon where we would camp (or stay in a guesthouse) and start a day trek the next day.

 

16. SEPTEMBER: PENJIKENT/ RACHNAPOLLON (0 km drive)


Today we trek to the so called "Seven Lakes" (or Tajik "Haft Kul")in the Fann Mountains. 


Accommodation: We have the option to camp (or stay at a guesthouse) in Rachnapollon or continue towards Issanderkul.

 

17.SEPTEMBER: RACHNAPOLLON- SARVODA (150 km drive)

We will drive to Sarvoda to see Issanderkul Lake which used to be the most beautiful lake in all of the Soviet Union. After the hike we will look for a place to camp on the way to the capital of Tajikistan called Dushanbe.

Accommodation: Bush camping along the road to Dushanbe or a nice and cheap hostel in the city called Yellow Hostel.

18.SEPTEMBER: SARVODA-DUSHANBE (120 km drive)

From Sarvoda we will drive to the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe.

Accommodation: We will stay in a nice and cheap hostel called the Yellow Hostel

19. SEPTEMBER: DUSHANBE 

Dushanbe has museums, cafés, monuments and even an aqualand we can visit. Enjoy your free day as you like and we will help you get around town.

20. SEPTEMBER: DUSHANBE

21. SEPTEMBER: DUSHANBE - KHULOB/KHALAIKUM (250-450km/ 5-7hrs)

Today is a full day drive, but you will see that you will be glad for it once you are in the Pamirs. The really beautiful scenery starts after the Shurabad Pass. From there you will get to see the Afghani mountains and also have the possibility to stop at the impressive Hulbuk Fort on the way.

Accommodation: We will find a cheap guesthouse to stay at and if you prefer to camp we would always be able to find a free spot to pitch some tents.

22. SEPTEMBER: KHALAIKUM- KHOROGH (250km/ 6+hrs)

We will continue driving on the Pamir Highway through dramatic landscape with winding roads, steep mountains and outstanding scenery – this is what a road trip is all about! We follow the Panj River the entire day and there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos of the incredible scenery that seems to get more spectacular with each passing hour. That afternoon we arrive in Khorog where you will stay for two nights in a guesthouse.

Accommodation: We will find a cheap guesthouse to stay at and if you prefer to camp we would always be able to find a free spot to pitch some tents.

23. SEPTEMBER: KHOROGH / DAY TRIP TO ISHKASHIM

We will have a day to relax between all the driving in Khorogh, a nice little city by the river in the mountains. For those wanting to do a day trip to Afghanistan you might be let through the border for a day without a visa, otherwise you could get a visa within an hour or two for a 50USD express fee (might be negotiable). The price for the visa itself is 150USD. Otherwise you might spend the day washing clothes, checking your email and relaxing before we continue the drive along the Pamir Highway.

Accommodation: We will find a cheap guesthouse to stay at and if you prefer to camp we would always be able to find a free spot to pitch some tents.


24. SEPTEMBER: KHOROGH- VRANG

We will continue driving on the Pamir Highway through some pretty epic scenery. In Vrang there will be several guesthouses to stay at and bush camping opportunities around. There is also a museum of Wakhan Culture and a waterfall we can check out.


Accommodation: We will find a local homestay where we probably can stay for around 5$ per night, or we can check into a guesthouse which should be around 10-15$ per night.

 

25. SEPTEMBER: VRANG - WAKHAN CORRIDOR TURN

The road will lead us up the Wakhan Valley where we probably will spend the night around the Wakhan Valley turnoff point.

Accommodation: We can bush camp or find a local homestay where we probably can stay for around 5$ per night, or we can check into a guesthouse which should be around 10-15$ per night.


26.SEPTEMBER: WAKHAN CORRIDOR TURN - MURGHAB


We will drive to Murghab, a lovely town in the Pamirs. From here we can do a day trip deeper into Badakhshan National Park to see the Murghab Valley Road and visit the hot springs of Modiyan.


Accommodation: We can bush camp or find a local homestay where we probably can stay for around 5$ per night, or we can check into a guesthouse which should be around 10-15$ per night.



27.SEPTEMBER: MURGHAB - KARAKUL LAKE

We will be driving up towards Kyrgyzstan and camp by the border at a lake.


Accommodation: We will bush camp at a lake so that we can arrive at the border when it opens in the morning.


28.SEPTEMBER: KARAKUL LAKE - SARY TASH

Today we will cross from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan and travel through the last part of the Pamir Highway.

29.SEPTEMBER: SARY TASH - OSH


Today will be the last drive of leg 9, and we will end up in Osh, an interesting town to walk around, visit the Suleiman Too mountain which is a UNESCO site and taste some Kyrgyz food. 


Accommodation: We will stay at a guest house with wifi and showers to wash off the dirt from the Pamir Highway.


30.SEPTEMBER: OSH (LEG 9 FINISH/LEG 10 START)

Today will be the last drive of leg 9, and we will end up in Osh, an interesting town to walk around, visit the Suleiman Too mountain which is a UNESCO site and taste some Kyrgyz food.

Accommodation: We will stay at a guest house with wifi and showers to wash off the dirt from the Pamir Highway.
